الخُطْبَةُ الأُوْلَى

إِنَّ الحَمْدَ للهِ، نَحْمَدُهُ وَنَسْتَعِينُهُ، وَنَسْتَغْفِرُهُ ونَتُوبُ إِلَيه، مَنْ يَهْدِ اللهُ فَلَا مُضِلَّ لَهُ، وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلَا هَادِيَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ.

أَمَّا بَعْدُ: فَأُوْصِيْكُمْ ونَفْسِي بِتَقْوَى اللهِ في القَولِ والعَمَلِ، وَالسِرِّ والعَلَنِ، فَهِيَ وَصِيَّةُ اللهِ لِلْأَوَّلِيْنَ والآخِرِيْنَ، قال U: ﴿وَلَقَدْ وَصَّيْنَا الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الكِتَابَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ وَإِيَّاكُمْ أَنِ اتَّقُوا اللهَ﴾.

I advise you and myself to have Taqwa (consciousness and fear) of Allah in our words and actions, both in private and in public. This is the advice of Allah to the people before us and to us. Allah said: "And We have certainly enjoined upon those who were given the Scripture before you and upon you to fear Allah."

 

 

 

عِبَادَ اللهِ: مِنْ أَفْضَلِ العِبَادَاتِ، وَأَجَلِّ الطَّاعَات؛ طَلَبُ العِلْمِ وتَعْلِيْمُه.

قال ابنُ المبارك: (لا أَعْلَمُ بَعْدَ النُبُوَّةِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ بَثِّ العِلْم!).

Servants of Allah, one of the best forms of worship and acts of obedience is seeking knowledge and teaching it. Ibn al-Mubarak said: "I do not know anything after prophethood that is better than spreading knowledge."

 

وَمَا أَمَرَ اللهُ رَسُوْلَهُ بِطَلَبِ الزِّيَادَةِ في شَيءٍ إِلَّا في العِلْم! ﴿وَقُلْ رَّبِّزِدْنِي عِلْمًا﴾. قال العلماء: (وَكَفَى بهذا شَرَفًا لِلْعِلْمِ: أَنْ أَمَرَ نَبِيَّهُأَنْ يَسْأَلَهُ المَزِيْدَ مِنْه).

Allah only commanded His Messenger to ask for an increase in one thing: knowledge. Allah says:
"And say, 'My Lord, increase me in knowledge." The scholars said: "This alone is enough to show the honour of knowledge: that Allah commanded His Prophet to ask for more of it."

 

وَمِنْ أَسْبَابِ الأَمْنِ في الأَوْطَانِ: نَشْرُ العِلْمِ النَّافِع، فَالْعِلْمُ حِجَابُ الفِتْنَةِ، وأَسَاسُ الحِكْمَة؛ قال ابنُ القَيِّم: (وَإِذَا ظَهَرَ العِلْمُ فِي بَلَدٍ: قَلَّ الشَرُّ في أَهْلِهَا، وَإِذَا خَفِيَ العِلْمُ هُنَاكَ: ظَهَرَ الشَرُّ والفَسَاد).

One of the means of security in a nation is spreading beneficial knowledge. Knowledge is a shield against trials and the foundation of wisdom. Ibn al-Qayyim said: "When knowledge becomes widespread in a land, evil decreases among its people; and when knowledge is hidden, evil and corruption spread."

 

وَمَعَ بِدَايَةِ العَامِ الدِّرَاسِيِّ، يَسْتَعِدُّ المُعَلِّمُونَ للتَّعْلِيمِ والتَّدْرِيسِ، وَيَتَهَيَّأُ الطُلَّابُ لِلْتَّعْلُّمِ والتَّأْسِيْسِ؛ وَمَنْ أَحْسَنَ النِيَّة؛ اخْتَصَرَالطَّرِيقَ إلى الجَنَّة! قال ﷺ: (مَنْ سَلَكَ طَرِيقًا يَبْتَغِي فِيهِ عِلْمًا؛سَلَكَ اللهُ بِهِ طَرِيقًا إِلَى الجَنَّةِ، وَإِنَّ الملَائِكَةَ لَتَضَعُ أَجْنِحَتَهَا رِضَاءً لِطَالِبِ العِلْمِ؛ وَإِنَّ العَالِمَ لَيَسْتَغْفِرُ لَهُ مَنْ في السَّمَوَاتِ وَمَنْ في الأَرضِ؛ حَتَّى الحِيتَانُ في المَاءِ!).

As the new school year begins, teachers prepare to teach, and students get ready to learn. Whoever perfects their intention, they shorten their path to Paradise! The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever follows a path to seek knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise. The angels lower their wings out of pleasure for the seeker of knowledge, and all the creatures in the heavens and the earth, even the fish in the water, ask forgiveness for the scholar."

 

وَمِهْنَةُ التَّعْلِيمِ: مِهْنَةٌ شَرِيْفَةٌ، وأَمَانَةٌ عَظِيْمَةٌ، تَقْتَضِي أَنْ يكونَ المُعَلِّمُ قُدْوَةً حَسَنَةً بِأَخْلَاقِهِ؛ قال مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ الحَكَمِ t -في وَصْفِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ-: (مَا رَأَيْتُ مُعَلِّمًا -قَبْلَهُ وَلَا بَعْدَهُ- أَحْسَنَ تَعْلِيمًا مِنْهُ، فَوَاللهِ مَا كَهَرَنِي، وَلَا ضَرَبَنِي، وَلَا شَتَمَنِي). يقولُ السِّعْدِي: (وَمِنَ الحِكْمَةِ: الدَّعوَةُ بالعِلْمِ، والبَدَاءَةُ بالأَهَمِّ، وَالأَقْرَبِ إلى الأَذْهَانِ، وَبِالرِّفْقِ واللِّيْنِ).

The profession of teaching is a noble one and a great trust. The teacher should be a good example in their character. Mu'awiyah ibn al-Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him) described the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saying: "I have never seen a teacher better than him, neither before nor after. By Allah, he never scolded me, hit me, or insulted me."

Al-Sa’di said: "Part of wisdom is to teach with knowledge, to start with what is most important and closest to people's understanding, and to do so with gentleness and kindness."

 

وَهَنِيْئًا لِلْمُعَلِّمِ المُخْلِصِ: إِذَا دَلَّ طُلَّابَهُ عَلى الخَيْرِ، وحَذَّرَهُمْ مِنَالشَرِّ؛ فإنَّ (مَنْ دَلَّ عَلَى خَيْرٍ فَلَهُ مِثْلُ أَجْرِ فَاعِلِهِ)؛ قال ﷺ: (إِنَّ اللهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ، وَأَهْلَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرَضِينَ، حَتَّى النَّمْلَةَ في جُحْرِهَا، وَحَتَّى الحُوتَ؛ لَيُصَلُّونَ عَلَى مُعَلِّمِ النَّاسِ الخَيْرَ).

Good news for the sincere teacher who guides their students to goodness and warns them against evil! The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever guides someone to goodness will have a reward similar to the doer’s." The Prophet ﷺ also said: "Indeed, Allah, His angels, the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth, even the ant in its hole and the fish, send blessings upon the one who teaches people good."

والمُعَلِّمُ القُدْوَةُ: يَكُونُ مُؤَثِّرًا بِأَفْعَالِهِ قَبْلَ أَقْوَالِهِ؛ فَقَدْ جَاءَفي سِيْرَةِ الإِمَامِ أَحْمَدَ بِنِ حَنْبَل -رحمه الله-: أَنَّهُ (كَانَ يَجتَمِعُ في مَجْلِسِهِ خَمْسَةُ آلاَفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُوْنَ: نَحْوَ "خَمْسِ مائَةٍ"يَكْتُبُوْنَ، وَالبَاقُوْنَ يَتَعَلَّمُوْنَ مِنْهُ حُسْنَ الأَدَبِ وَالسَّمْتِ!).

A role model teacher influences others by their actions before their words. It is mentioned in the biography of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (may Allah have mercy on him) that five thousand or more people would attend his gatherings: about five hundred would write down his teachings, and the rest would learn from his good manners and demeanor!

وقال ابنُ الجَوْزِي: (لَقِيْتُ عَبْدَ الوَهَّابِ الأَنْمَاطِيِّ، فَكَانَ على قَانُونِ السَّلَفِ، لم تُسْمَعْ في مَجْلِسِهِ غِيْبَةٌ، وكُنْتُ إِذَا قَرَأْتُ عَلَيْهِ أَحَادِيثَ الرَّقَائِقِ؛ بَكَى وَاتَّصَلَ بُكَاؤُه!فَكَانَ -وَأَنَا صَغِيرُ السِنِّ حِيْنَئِذٍ- يَعْمَلُ بُكَاؤُهُ في قَلْبِي، وَيَبْنِي قَوَاعِد!).

Ibn al-Jawzi said: "I met 'Abdul Wahhab al-Anmati, who followed the way of the righteous predecessors. There was never any backbiting in his gatherings. When I read to him about the softening of the hearts, he would cry, and his tears would affect me even though I was young at that time."

والتَّعْلِيْمُ مَسْئُوْلِيَّةٌ مُشْتَرَكَةٌ: بَيْنَ المَدْرَسَةِ والبَيْتِ، والمُعَلِّمِيْنَ وأَوْلِيَاءِ الأُمُورِ؛ فَكُلُّ مَنْ لَهُ رَعِيَّةٌ؛ فَعَلَيْهِ مَسْئُوْلِيَّة! قال ﷺ: (كُلُّكُمْ رَاعٍ، وَكُلُّكُمْ مَسْئُولٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ: الإِمَامُ رَاعٍ وَمَسْئُولٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ، وَالرَّجُلُ رَاعٍ فِي أَهْلِهِ وَهُوَ مَسْئُولٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ، وَالمَرْأَةُ رَاعِيَةٌ فِي بَيْتِ زَوْجِهَا وَمَسْئُولَةٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهَا).

Teaching is a shared responsibility between the school, the home, the teachers, and the parents. Everyone who has a responsibility over others will be held accountable! The Prophet ﷺ said: "Each of you is a shepherd, and each of you is responsible for his flock. The leader is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock, the man is a shepherd of his family and is responsible for his flock, the woman is a shepherd in her husband’s house and is responsible for her flock."

قال ابنُ القَيِّم: (فَمَنْ أَهْمَلَ تَعْلِيمَ وَلَدِهِ مَا يَنْفَعهُ، وَتَرَكَهُ سُدَى؛ فَقَدْ أَسَاءَ إِلَيْهِ غَايَةَ الإِسَاءَة، وَأَكْثَرُ الأَولَادِ إِنَّما جَاءَ فَسَادُهُمْمِنْ قِبَلِ الآبَاءِ، وَإِهْمَالِهِمْ لَهُم، وَتَرْكِ تَعْلِيْمِهِمْ فَرَائِضَ الدِّينِ وَسُنَنِه، فَأَضَاعُوْهُمْ صِغَارًا؛ فَلَمْ يَنْتَفِعُوا بِأَنْفُسِهِم، وَلم يَنْفَعُوا آبَاءَهُمْ كِبَارًا).

Ibn al-Qayyim said: "Whoever neglects teaching his child what will benefit him, and leaves him to waste away, has done the worst possible thing to him. Most of the corruption of children comes from their parents, who neglect them and fail to teach them the obligations of the religion and its practices. They leave them to themselves when they are young, and thus the children do not benefit themselves or their parents when they grow up."

 

وَقُوَّةُ الوَطَنِ: لَيْسَتْ بِالقُوَّةِ العَسْكَرِيَّةِ فَقَط، بِلْ بالقُوَّةِ العِلْمِيَّةِ أيضًا؛قال تعالى: ﴿وَأَعِدُّوا لَهُم مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ مِن قُوَّةٍ﴾. يقولُ السِّعْدِي-في معنى القُوَّة-: (أَيْ مَا تَقْدِرُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ القُوَّةِ العَقْلِيَّةِوالبَدَنِيَّة).

The strength of a nation is not just in its military power, but also in its knowledge and education. Allah says:"And prepare against them whatever you are able of power."
Al-Sa'di said regarding the meaning of "power": "It refers to everything you can muster of mental and physical strength."

 

أَقُوْلُ قَوْلِي هَذَا، وَأسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ لِيْ وَلَكُمْ مِنْ كُلِّ ذَنْبٍ؛ فَاسْتَغْفِرُوْهُ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الغَفُورُ الرَّحِيم

 

 

 

الخُطْبَةُ الثَّانِيَةُ

الحَمْدُ للهِ عَلَى إِحْسَانِه، والشُّكْرُ لَهُ عَلَى تَوْفِيْقِهِ وَامْتِنَانِه، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلَّا الله، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبدُهُ وَرَسُولُه.

 

عِبَادَ الله: العِلْمُ النَّافِعُ؛ ثَمَرَةُ التَّقْوَى؛ قال ﷻ: ﴿وَاتَّقُوا اللهَوَيُعَلِّمُكُمُ اللهُ﴾.

قال الشوكاني: (وَفِيهِ الوَعدُ لِمَنِ اتَّقَاهُ: أَنْ يُعَلِّمَهُ).

O worshipers of Allah, beneficial knowledge is the fruit of Taqwa (fear and consciousness of Allah). Allah says:"And fear Allah, and Allah will teach you."
Al-Shawkani said: "In this verse is a promise that whoever has Taqwa of Allah, Allah will teach him."

والعِلْمُ وَسِيْلَةٌ لإِصْلاحِ العَمَلِ؛ والعَمَلُ الصَّالِحُ: سَبَبٌ لِلْنَّجَاةِ فيالدُّنيا والآخِرَة؛ وَمِنْ أَعْظَمِ الأَعْمَالِ (الَّتِي يَسْتَقْبِلُ بِهَا الطَّالِبُيَوْمَهُ الدِّرَاسِي): صَلَاةُ الفَجْرِ في وَقْتِهَا؛ فَمَنْ أَيْقَظَ أَولادَهُ لِلْمَدْرَسَةِ، وَلَمْ يُوْقِظْهُمْ لِلْصَّلَاة؛ فَقَدْ حَرَمَهُمْ رِزْقًا عَظِيمًا! قال تعالى: ﴿وَأْمُرْ أَهْلَكَ بِالصَّلاةِ وَاصْطَبِرْ عَلَيْهَا لا نَسْأَلُكَ رِزْقًا نَّحْنُ نَرْزُقُكَ﴾.

Knowledge is a means to improve one's deeds, and righteous deeds are the path to success in this world and the Hereafter. One of the greatest deeds that a student can start his school day with is the Fajr prayer at its proper time. If someone wakes up their children for school but does not wake them up for prayer, they have deprived them of a great blessing! Allah says:
"And enjoin prayer upon your family and be steadfast therein. We ask you not for provision; We provide for you."

 

وَأَعْظَمُ العُلُومِ النَّافِعَةِ: هِيَ الَّتِي تَنْفَعُ صَاحِبَهَا في الدُّنيا والآخِرَة، وتَقُودُهُ إلى مُسْتَقْبَلِ الأَبْرَارِ، وَتَحْمِيْهِ مِنَ خَطَرِ النَّارِ! قال I: ﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيْكُمْ نَارًا﴾.قالَ المُفَسِّرُون: (أَدِّبُوهُمْ وَعَلِّمُوهُم، ومُرُوْهُمْ بِالمَعرُوفِ،وَانْهَوْهُمْ عَنِ المُنْكَرِ، وَلَا تَدَعُوهُمْ هَمْلًا؛ فَتَأْكُلَهُمُ النَّارُ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ).

The most beneficial knowledge is that which benefits its possessor in this world and the Hereafter, leading them to the future of the righteous and protecting them from the danger of the Fire. Allah, the Most High, says: "O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire."
The scholars explained this verse, saying: "Discipline them, teach them, command them to do good, and forbid them from evil. Do not leave them neglected, lest the Fire consumes them on the Day of Resurrection."

* اللَّهُمَّ عَلِّمْنَا مَا يَنْفَعُنَا، وَانْفَعْنَا بِمَا عَلَّمْتَنَا.

* اللَّهُمَّ أَعِزَّ الإِسْلامَ والمُسْلِمِينَ، وأَذِلَّ الشِّرْكَ والمُشْرِكِيْن.

* اللَّهُمَّ فَرِّجْ هَمَّ المَهْمُوْمِيْنَ، وَنَفِّسْ كَرْبَ المَكْرُوْبِين.

* عِبَادَ الله: ﴿إِنَّ اللهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالعَدْلِ وَالإحْسَانِ وَإِيتَاءِ ذِي القُرْبَى وَيَنْهَى عَنِ الفَحْشَاءِ وَالمُنْكَرِ وَالبَغْيِ يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ﴾.

* فَاذْكُرُوا اللهَ يَذْكُرْكُمْ، وَاشْكُرُوْهُ على نِعَمِهِ يَزِدْكُمْ ﴿وَلَذِكْرُ اللهِ أَكْبَرُ وَاللهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَصْنَعُونَ﴾.
