To proceed: Fear Allah and remember Him often, and know that there is always a watcher over you;
"And sufficient is Allah as an ally, and sufficient is Allah as a helper."

Servants of Allah: They were the best of generations, a chosen group among mankind that will not be repeated. They are the best of all people after the Prophets and Messengers. They are the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. In the hadith, the Prophet ﷺ said, "The best of people are my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them." Shaykh al-Islam said, "Whoever looks into the lives of these people will know with certainty that they were the best of creation after the Prophets. There has never been, and there will never be, anyone like them. They are the elite of the elite from the generations of this Ummah!"

The praise of the Companions comes from the Lord of all creation, from above the seven heavens! Allah says:"Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from Allah and [His] pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration."

Attacking the Companions is an attack on the religion and a slander against the leader of the Messengers! The religion was only conveyed to us through them, and Islam only reached us because they sacrificed their wealth and their lives for it. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not insult my companions, for by the One in Whose hand is my soul, if one of you were to spend gold equivalent to Mount Uhud, it would not amount to even a handful of one of them, or even half of it." Abu Zur'ahsaid, "If you see a man criticizing any of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, know that he is a heretic, because the Quran is true, the Messenger is true, and what he brought is true. It was the Companions who conveyed all of this to us, so whoever criticizes them intends to undermine the Quran and Sunnah."

When Allah knew what was in the hearts of the Companions — of sincerity, purity, love, and loyalty — He chose them to support the religion and to accompany the leader of the pious. Allah the Exalted says:"Certainlywas Allah pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you, [O Muhammad], under the tree, and He knew what was in their hearts." Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Indeed, Allah looked into the hearts of His servants, and He found the heart of Muhammad ﷺ to be the best of hearts, so He chose him for Himself and sent him with His message. Then He looked into the hearts of His servants after Muhammad ﷺ and found the hearts of his Companions to be the best, so He made them the ministers of His Prophet, fighting for His religion."

Because the Companions were the first to embrace Islam, Allah gave them glad tidings of the abode of peace and made them role models for humanity! Allah the Exalted says: "And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajireen and the Ansar and those who followed them with good conduct—Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow."

One of the early scholars said, "Whoever seeks a role model should follow those who have passed away, because the living are not safe from fitnah. They are the Companions of Muhammad ﷺ, the best of this Ummah: the purest of hearts, the deepest in knowledge, and the least pretentious."

Among the noble qualities of the righteous Companions are generosity and selflessness, which is the highest level of giving. This is when one gives away their wealth despite their own need for it. Allah the Exalted says:"And they give [others] preference over themselves, even though they are in privation." Al-Khatib al-Baghdadi said, "If nothing had been revealed from Allah or His Messenger about the Companions, their circumstances alone — of migration, jihad, support for the religion, sacrifice of life and wealth, and strength of faith and certainty — would require us to affirm their integrity and fairness. They are better than all who came after them, forever."

One of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked before the polytheists killed him, "Would you like to be safe with your family, and for Muhammad to be in your place so we could kill him?" He replied, "By Allah, I would not like for Muhammad to be in his place, even if a thorn were to hurt him!"

Loving the Companions is a part of the religion and faith, and hating them is hypocrisy and transgression! The Prophet ﷺ said, "The sign of faith is love for the Ansar, and the sign of hypocrisy is hatred for the Ansar." Sahlal-Tustari said, "One does not truly believe in the Messenger of Allah ﷺ if he does not honor his Companions!"

It is enough of an honor for the Companions that their eyes were blessed to see the best of mankind: Muhammad ﷺ. This virtue was not attained by anyone before them, and no one after them will ever attain it (in this worldly life). The Prophet ﷺ said, "Among those most devoted to me from my Ummah will be people who come after me, who would wish to see me even if they had to give up their family and wealth." Thabit al-Banani said, "I said to Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), 'Give me your eyes which have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so that I may kiss them.' He then let me kiss his eyes!" Then Thabit said to Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), 'Did you touch the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with your hand?' He replied, 'Yes.' So I said, 'Give me your hand so that I may kiss it,' and he gave it to me and I kissed it!"

The Ummah has unanimously agreed on loving the Companions, asking Allah to be pleased with them, and praying for them, as Allah has guided us by saying:"And those who came after them say, 'Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and put not in our hearts [any] resentment toward those who have believed.'" Al-Shawkani said, "This means, do not place in our hearts any hatred. So, Allah commanded them after seeking forgiveness for the Muhajireen and the Ansar to ask Him to remove any resentment they might have toward those who believed. This primarily includes the Companions. Whoever does not seek forgiveness for the Companions has opposed what Allah has commanded. If he finds any resentment toward them in his heart, then he has been affected by a whisper from Shaytan and has opened the door to his own downfall unless he rids his heart of resentment toward the best of generations and the noblest of this Ummah."

Servants of Allah: Draw closer to Allah by loving the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, and emulate their character; for whoever loves a people will be resurrected with them! Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "We never rejoiced at anything more than when the Prophet ﷺ said, 'A person will be with those whom he loves.' So I love the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr, and Umar, and I hope to be with them because of my love for them, even if I have not done deeds like theirs."

Whoever seeks guidance should follow the path of the Companions, for they are a people whom Allah chose to accompany His Prophet and establish His religion. Sorecognize their virtue, follow in their footsteps, for they are upon the straight guidance and a sound path! Allah the Exalted says:
"Those are the ones whom Allah has guided, so from their guidance take an example."

* * * *

* اللَّهُمَّ أَعِزَّ الإِسْلامَ والمُسْلِمِينَ، وأَذِلَّ الشِّرْكَ والمُشْرِكِيْن.

* اللَّهُمَّ ارْضَ عَنْ خُلَفَائِكَ الرَّاشِدِيْن، الأَئِمَّةِ المَهْدِيِّين: أبي بَكْرٍ، وعُمَرَ، وعثمان، وعلي؛ وعَنِ بَقِيَّةِ الصحابةِ والتابعِين، ومَنْتَبِعَهُمْ بِإِحْسَانٍ إلى يومِ الدِّين.

* فَاذْكُرُوا اللهَ يَذْكُرْكُمْ، وَاشْكُرُوْهُ على نِعَمِهِ يَزِدْكُمْ ﴿وَلَذِكْرُ اللهِ أَكْبَرُ وَاللهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَصْنَعُونَ﴾.
