الخُطْبَةُ الأُوْلَى
إِنَّ الحَمْدَ للهِ، نَحْمَدُهُ وَنَسْتَعِينُهُ، وَنَسْتَغْفِرُهُ ونَتُوبُ إِلَيه، مَنْ يَهْدِ اللهُ فَلَا مُضِلَّ لَهُ، وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلَا هَادِيَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ.
أَمَّا بَعْد: فَأُوْصِيْكُمْ ونَفْسِي بِتَقْوَى اللهِ U: فَهِيَ المَخْرَجُ مِنَ الهُمُومِ والغُمُومِ، ومِفْتَاحُ الأَرْزَاقِ والعُلُوم؛ ﴿وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لا يَحْتَسِبُ﴾.
All praise is due to Allah, and after that: I advise you and myself to fear Allah (have Taqwa of Allah), for it is the way out of worries and sorrows, and the key to sustenance and knowledge. Allah says: "And whoever fears Allah (has Taqwa of Allah) - He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect."
أَيُّهَا المسلمون: إِنَّهَا عِبَادَةٌ جَلِيْلَةٌ، وبَوَّابَةٌ كَبِيرَةٌ: يَدْخُلُ مِنْهَا العَبْدُ إلى رَبِّه، ويَسْعَدُ بِمُنَاجَاتِهِ وقُرْبِه؛ إِنَّهَا عِبَادَةُ السُّجُودِ للهِ U؛ يقولُ تعالى لِنَبِيِّهِ ﷺ: ﴿وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ﴾.
O Muslims, there is a great act of worship and a vast gateway through which the servant draws near to his Lord and finds joy in closeness to Him: it is the act of prostration to Allah. Allah instructs His Prophet ﷺ,saying: "And prostrate and draw near [to Allah].”
ومِنْ فَضَائِلِ السُّجُودِ للهِ: أَنَّهُ عَلَامَةٌ على التَّوْحِيدِ والإِيْمَانِ، ونَجَاةٌ مِنَ الخُلُودِ في النِيْرَان! قال ﷺ: (إِذَا فَرَغَ اللهُ مِنَ القَضَاءِ بَيْنَ العِبَادِ، وَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُخْرِجَ بِرَحْمَتِهِ مَنْ أَرَادَ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ: أَمَرَ المَلاَئِكَةَ أَنْ يُخْرِجُوا مِنَ النَّارِ، مَنْ كَانَ لاَ يُشْرِكُ بِاللهِ شَيْئًا، مِمَّنْ أَرَادَ اللهُ أَنْ يَرْحَمَهُ، مِمَّنْ يَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلَّا الله، فَيَعْرِفُونَهُمْ فِي النَّارِ بِأَثَرِ السُّجُودِ، تَأْكُلُ النَّارُ ابْنَ آدَمَ إِلَّا أَثَرَ السُّجُودِ).
One of the virtues of prostration to Allah is that it signifies belief in monotheism and faith, and it is a means of salvation from eternal punishment. The Prophet ﷺ said: "When Allah finishes judging between His servants and intends to show mercy to those destined for hell, He will command the angels to bring out from the Fire those who did not associate anything with Allah, whom He wished to show mercy to, and they will be recognized in the Fire by the mark of prostration. The Fire will consume all of the son of Adam except the marks of prostration."
ومِنْ فَضَائِلِ السُّجُودِ: أَنَّهُ يُؤَثِّرُ في وَجْهِ صَاحِبِهِ: حَتَّى يَسْتَنِيرَ بِنُورِ الإِيمان، وتَغْشَاهُ السَّكِيْنَةُ والوَقَارُ، قال تعالى: ﴿سِيمَاهُمْ فِي وُجُوْهِهِمْ مِنْ أَثَرِ السُّجُودِ﴾.
Another virtue of prostration is that it leaves a mark on the face of the one who prostrates, illuminating his face with the light of faith and filling him with peace and tranquility. Allah says: "Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration."
قال السِّعْدِي: (لَـمَّا اسْتَنَارَتْ بِالصَّلَاةِ بَوَاطِنُهُمْ: اسْتَنَارَتْ بِالجَلَالِ ظَوَاهِرُهُمْ!).
As explained by the scholar Al-Sa'di: "When their hearts are illuminated with prayer, their outward appearance reflects this majesty."
ويَظْهَرُ أَثَرُ السُّجُودِ في الآخِرَة! قال U: ﴿سِيمَاهُمْ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ مِنْ أَثَرِ السُّجُودِ﴾. قال بعضُ المُفَسِّرِين: (نُورٌ وَبَيَاضٌ في وُجُوهِهِم يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ، يُعْرَفُونَ بِهِ أَنَّهُمْ سَجَدُوا فِي الدُّنْيَا، وتَكُونُ مَوَاضِعُ السُّجُودِ مِنْ وُجُوهِهِمْ: كَالقَمَرِ لَيلَةَ البَدر!).
The effect of prostration will also be visible in the Hereafter. Allah says: "Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration." Some interpreters have said: "This refers to a light and brightness on their faces on the Day of Judgment, by which they will be recognized as those who prostrated in this world, and the places of prostration on their faces will shine like the full moon."
سُئِلَ ﷺ: (يَا رَسُولَ الله، وَكَيْفَ تَعْرِفُ أُمَّتَكَ مِنْ بَيْنِ الْأُمَمِ؟!)؛ فقال: (أَعْرِفُهُمْ بِسِيْمَاهُمْ في وُجُوهِهِم مِنْ أَثَرِ السُّجُود).
The Prophet ﷺ was asked: "O Messenger of Allah, how will you recognize your Ummah (community) among all the other nations?" He said: "I will recognize them by the marks on their faces from the traces of prostration."
وكَثْرَةُ السَّجَدَات: رِفْعَةٌ لِلْدَّرَجَات! قال ﷺ: (مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَسْجُدُ لِله سَجْدَةً، إِلَّا رَفَعَهُ اللهُ بِهَا دَرَجَةً، وَحَطَّ عَنْهُ بِهَا خَطِيئَةً، وَكَتَبَ لَهُ بِهَا حَسَنَةً).
Frequent prostration raises one's status. The Prophet ﷺsaid: "There is no servant who prostrates to Allah once, except that Allah raises him by a degree and forgives a sin for him, and records a good deed for him."
والسُّجُودُ عِبَادَةٌ عظيمة: اجْتَمَعَتْ عليها كلُّ الكائنات! قال U: ﴿وَلِله يَسْجُدُ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأرْضِ طَوْعًا وَكَرْهًا﴾. قال السِّعْدي: (﴿طَوْعًا وَكَرْهًا﴾ فالطَّوْعُ: لِمَنْ يأتي بالسُّجُودِ والخُضُوعِ اخْتِيَارًا: كالمؤمنين، والكَرْهُ: لِمَنْ يَسْتَكْبِرُ عَنْ عِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِ، وفِطْرَتُهُ تُكَذِّبُهُ في ذلك!).
Prostration is a noble act of worship that is shared by all of creation. Allah says: "To Allah prostrates whoever is within the heavens and the earth, willingly or by compulsion." Al-Sa'di commented: "Willingly refers to those who prostrate and submit by choice, like the believers, and by compulsion refers to those who are arrogant about worshiping their Lord, but their very nature testifies against them."
وإذا اشْتَدَّتْ بِكَ الأَزَمَاتُ، وحَاصَرَتْكَ المُشْكِلَاتُ؛ فإنَّ السُّجُودَ يَفْتَحُ لَكَ بَابَ الفَرَج، ويَكْشِفُ عَنكَ الضِّيْقَ والحَرَج؛ فَهُوَ سَبَبٌ لِتَفْرِيجِ الكُرُبَات، وإِجَابَةِ الدَّعَوات! قال ﷺ: (أَقْرَبُ مَا يَكُونُ الْعَبْدُ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَهُوَ سَاجِدٌ؛ فَأَكْثِرُوا الدُّعَاءَ).
If crises surround you and problems overwhelm you, prostration opens the door to relief and removes hardship, for it is a means of alleviating distress and having prayers answered. The Prophet ﷺ said: "The closest a servant can be to his Lord is when he is prostrating, so increase in supplication."
وبَيْنَما النَّاسُ في أَرْضِ المَحْشَرِ، وَقَدْ دَنَتْ مِنْهُمُ الشَّمْسُ، وَأَصَابَهُمْ مِنَ الكَرْبِ ما لا يُطِيقُونَ= بَحَثُوا عَمَّنْ يَشْفَعُ لَهُمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ؛ كَي يُفَرِّجَ عَنْهُمْ مَا هُمْ فيهِ مِنَ البَلَاءِ، حَتَّى إِذَا أَتَوا إلى النبيِّ ﷺ؛ فَيَشْفَعُ لَهُمْ في فَصْلِ القَضَاءِ، وَيَسْتَأْذِنُ على رَبِّهِ، وَيَخِرُّ لَهُ سَاجِدًا؛ فيُقالُ لَهُ: (يَا مُحَمَّدُ، ارْفَعْ رَأْسَكَ، وَقُلْ يُسْمَعْ لَكَ، وَسَلْ تُعْطَهْ، وَاشْفَعْ تُشَفَّعْ).
On the Day of Gathering, when the sun comes close to the people, and they are afflicted with hardship beyond what they can bear, they will seek someone to intercede for them before their Lord to relieve them of their suffering. When they come to the Prophet ﷺ, he will intercede for them, seek permission to enter the presence of his Lord, and will fall in prostration. It will be said to him: "O Muhammad, raise your head, speak and you will be heard, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted."
والسُّجُودُ للهِ: هُوَ لَذَّةُ الصالحين، وأَنِيْسُ المُتَّقِين، يَنْقُلُهُم مِنْ ضِيْقِ الأَرْضِ، إلى سَعَةِ السَّمَاء! وإِطَالَةُ السُّجُودِ: فُرصَةٌ لِبَثِّ الهُمُومِ والأَحْزَانِ، والشَّكْوَى إلى الرَّحْمَن! وقَدْ وَصَفَتْ عائشةُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا قيامَ النبيِّ ﷺ فقالت: (فَيَسْجُدُ السَّجْدَةَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، قَدْرَ مَا يَقْرَأُ أَحَدُكُمْ خَمْسِينَ آيَةً، قَبْلَ أَنْ يَرْفَعَ رَأْسَهُ!).
Prostration to Allah is the delight of the righteous and the companion of the pious, lifting them from the narrowness of the earth to the vastness of the heavens. Lengthy prostration is an opportunity to pour out one's worries and sorrows and to complain to the Most Merciful. Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, described the Prophet’s ﷺ night prayer, saying: "He would prostrate for a period as long as it takes one of you to recite fifty verses before raising his head."
والسُّجُودُ للهِ: أَشْرَفُ حَالاتِ العَبد، وفِيهِ إِظْهَارٌ لِلاِفْتِقَارِ والاِنْكِسَارِ، للهِ الوَاحِدِ القَهَّارِ! قال ابنُ القَيِّم: (السُّجُودُ هُوَ سِرُّ الْعُبُودِيَّةِ، والسَّاجِدُ أَذَلُّ مَا يَكُونُ لِرَبِّهِ، فَيُلْقِي نَفْسَهُ طَرِيحًا بِبَابِهِ، يُمَرِّغُ خَدَّهُ في ثَرَى أَعْتَابِهِ! فَلِهَذَا كَانَ أَقْرَبَ مَا يَكُونُ مِنْ رَبِّهِ فِي هَذِهِ الحَالَةِ).
Prostration is the most honorable state of the servant, manifesting humility and submission to the One, the Supreme. Ibn al-Qayyim said: "Prostration is the essence of servitude, and the one who prostrates is at his most humble before his Lord, throwing himself down at His door, rubbing his face in the dust at His threshold, and thus, he is closest to his Lord in this state."
والسُّجُودُ للهِ: هُوَ العَلَامَةُ الفَارِقَةُ، بينَ المؤمنينَ والمنافقين في الآخِرَة؛ قال ﷺ: (يكْشِفُ رَبُّنَا عَنْ سَاقِهِ، فَيَسْجُدُ لَهُ كُلُّ مُؤْمِنٍ وَمُؤْمِنَةٍ، فَيَبْقَى كُلُّ مَنْ كَانَ يَسْجُدُ في الدُّنْيَا رِيَاءً وَسُمْعَةً، فَيَذْهَبُ لِيَسْجُدَ، فَيَعُودُ ظَهْرُهُ طَبَقًا وَاحِدًا!). قال تعالى: ﴿يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَنْ سَاقٍ وَيُدْعَوْنَ إلى السُّجُودِ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ﴾.
Prostration is also the distinguishing mark between the believers and the hypocrites in the Hereafter. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Our Lord will reveal His Shin, and all the believers, male and female, will prostrate to Him. However, those who used to prostrate for show in this world will try to prostrate, but their backs will become stiff like a single piece." Allah says: "The Day the shin will be uncovered and they are invited to prostration but they will not be able to."
أَقُوْلُ قَوْلِي هَذَا، وَأسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ لِيْ وَلَكُمْ مِنْ كُلِّ ذَنْبٍ؛ فَاسْتَغْفِرُوْهُ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الغَفُورُ الرَّحِيم
الخُطْبَةُ الثَّانِيَة
الحَمْدُ للهِ على إِحْسَانِه، والشُّكْرُ لَهُ على تَوْفِيْقِهِ وَامْتِنَانِه، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلَّا الله، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبدُهُ وَرَسُولُه.
عِبَادَ الله: مَنْ أَرادَ القُربَ مِنَ اللهِ ورَسُوْلِهِ ﷺ؛ فَلْيَسْتَكْثِرْ مِنَالسُّجُودِ؛ فَعَنْ رَبِيْعَةَ الأَسْلَمِيِّ t أَنَّهُ قالَ لِلْنَّبِيِّ ﷺ: (أَسْأَلُكَ مُرَافَقَتَكَ في الجَنَّةِ) قال: (أَوْ غَيْرَ ذَلِكَ؟) قلت: (هُوَ ذَاكَ) قال: (فَأَعِنِّي على نَفْسِكَ بِكَثْرَةِ السُّجُودِ). قال الشوكاني: (فِيهِ أَنَّ السُّجُودَ مِنْ أَعْظَمِ القُرَبِ الَّتِي يَكُونُ بِسَبَبِهَا ارْتِفَاعُ الدَّرَجَاتِ عِنْدَ اللهِ إلى حَدٍّ لَا يُنَالُهُ إلَّا المُقَرَّبُونَ).
Servants of Allah: Whoever desires closeness to Allah and His Messenger ﷺ should increase in prostration. Rabi'ah al-Aslami, may Allah be pleased with him, asked the Prophet ﷺ: "I ask you for your companionship in Paradise." The Prophet ﷺ said: "Is there anything else you ask for?" He replied: "That is all." The Prophet ﷺthen said: "Help me against your own self by making frequent prostration." Al-Shawkani commented: "This shows that prostration is one of the greatest acts of worship, by which one's rank is elevated to a level that only the close ones to Allah can reach."
وفي قوله: ("أَعَنِّي على نَفْسِكَ بِكَثْرَةِ السُّجُودِ": إِشَارَةٌ إلى أنَّ الجَنَّةَ لا تَحْصُلُ إِلَّا بِقَهْرِ نَفْسِكَ -الَّتِي هِيَ أَعْدَى عَدُوِّكَ- وأَنَّ إِصْلَاحَهَا يَكُونُ بِالصَّلَاةِ والسجود).
In the Prophet’s ﷺ statement, "Help me against your own self by making frequent prostration," is an indication that Paradise is attained only by overcoming the desires of one's own soul, which is the greatest enemy, and that its reformation comes through prayer and prostration.
فَهَنِيْئًا لِمَنِ اغْتَنَمَ صِحَّتَهُ وشَبَابَهُ: بِكَثْرَةِ السُّجُودِ، قَبْلَ أَنْ يَحْبِسَهُ مَرَضٌ أو كِبَرُ! يقولُ يوسُفُ بنُ أَسْبَاط: (يا مَعْشَرَ الشَّبَاب؛ بَادِرُوا بالصِحَّةِ قَبْلَ المَرَض؛ فَمَا بَقِيَ أَحَدٌ أَحْسُدُهُ: إِلَّا رَجُلٌ يُتِمٌّ رُكُوْعَهُ وَسُجُوْدَه، وَقَدْ حِيْلَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ ذَلِك!).
So, congratulations to the one who takes advantage of their health and youth by making frequent prostration before illness or old age prevent them! Yusuf ibn Asbatsaid: "O young people, take advantage of your health before illness strikes! I envy no one except a man who completes his bowing and prostration properly, for I have been hindered from that."

* اللَّهُمَّ أَعِزَّ الإِسْلامَ والمُسْلِمِينَ، وأَذِلَّ الشِّرْكَ والمُشْرِكِيْن، وارْضَ اللَّهُمَّعَنِ الخُلَفَاءِ الرَّاشِدِيْن، الأَئِمَّةِ المَهْدِيِّين: أَبِي بَكْرٍ، وعُمَرَ، وعُثمانَ، وعَلِيّ؛ وعَنْ بَقِيَّةِ الصَّحَابَةِ والتابعِين، ومَنْ تَبِعَهُمْبِإِحْسَانٍ إلى يومِ الدِّين.
* اللَّهُمَّ فَرِّجْ هَمَّ المَهْمُوْمِيْنَ، وَنَفِّسْ كَرْبَ المَكْرُوْبِين، واقْضِ الدَّيْنَ عن المَدِيْنِين.
* عِبَادَ الله: ﴿إِنَّ اللهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالعَدْلِ وَالإحْسَانِ وَإِيتَآءِ ذِي القُرْبَى وَيَنْهَى عَنِ الفَحْشَاءِ وَالمُنْكَرِ وَالبَغْيِ يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ﴾.
* فَاذْكُرُوا اللهَ يَذْكُرْكُمْ، وَاشْكُرُوْهُ على نِعَمِهِ يَزِدْكُمْ ﴿وَلَذِكْرُ اللهِ أَكْبَرُ وَاللهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَصْنَعُونَ﴾.
