And fear Allah and be mindful of Him. And obey Him and do not disobey Him. Allah says: “And fear a Day when you will be returned to Allah. Then every soul will be compensated for what it earned, and they will not be treated unjustly." (Quran 2:281)
O worshipers of Allah, at the end of every year, markets and shops become active to offer deals and discounts. And there are divine offers and heavenly grants that open their doors at the end of every Hijri year. It is a great opportunity to accumulate good deeds, seek forgiveness for sins, and it is the best offer of the year, without a doubt! It is the (Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah).
And the Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah, the best days of the world! Allah has sworn by them - and Allah does not swear except by something great- as He says: "By the dawn and by the ten nights" [Quran 89:1-2]. Ibn Kathir explained that the intended meaning here is the Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah. The Prophet ﷺ also said:"There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these days" - referring to the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. The companions asked: "Not even Jihad in the cause of Allah?" The Prophet ﷺ replied: "Not even Jihad in the cause of Allah, except for a person who goes out with his life and wealth and does not return with either."
And the Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah are a consolation for those who missed out on the blessings of Ramadan. Sheikh al-Islam said: "The ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah are better than the ten days of Ramadan." Ibn Hajar states: "The reason for the distinction of the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah is the gathering of the mothers of worship in them, which are prayer, fasting, charity, and Hajj. This combination is not found in any other time."
Among the great deeds during these noble days are as follows:
Firstly: Repentance (Tawbah): It is obligatory at all times, but during this virtuous period, it holds great significance. When a Muslim combines sincere repentance with virtuous deeds during these blessed times, it becomes a key to success. Allah says, "But as for him who repented, believed, and did righteous deeds, then it is hoped that he will be among the successful" (Quran 28:67).
So, cleanse yourself with the pure water of repentance, for the door is wide open. Allah “loves those who repent and purify themselves(Quran 2:222).
And wash your heart from the impurities of polytheism, doubt, showing off, and envy, so that it may be prepared to meet Allah. On the Day when neither wealth nor children will avail except for those who come to Allah with a pure heart (Quran 26:88-89).
Secondly: Fasting. Congratulations to those who increase their fasting during these ten days, for they will be rewarded abundantly. It is narrated in a hadith that “Whoever fasts a day for the sake of Allah, Allah will distance their face from the Fire by a distance of seventy autumns”.
Fasting is a multiplied act of worship, and its reward is multiplied during these ten days. Allah says, "Every deed of the son of Adam is for him, except fasting, for it is for Me, and I will reward for it" (hadith Qudsi).
If you are unable to fast during these days, then at the very least, fast on the Day of Arafah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Fasting on the Day of Arafah, I hope from Allah, will expiate the sins of the previous year and the coming year" (Muslim).
Thirdly: Remembrance of Allah. Allah says in the Quran, "And mention the name of Allah on known days" (Quran 22:28). Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "These known days are the ten days (of Dhul-Hijjah)." In a hadith, it is narrated, "So increase in them (these days) the saying of Tahlil (La ilahaillallah), Takbir (Allahu Akbar), and Tahmid(Alhamdulillah)." Al-Bukhari narrated that Ibn Umar and Abu Hurairah used to go out to the marketplace during the ten days, raising their voices with Takbir, and the people would follow them in their Takbir.
Fourthly: Hajj (the pilgrimage). It is highly recommended for those who have not performed it before and have the means to undertake it. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever performs Hajj to this House (the Kaaba) and does not commit any obscenity or wickedness shall return as sinless as a newborn." He also said, "The accepted Hajj has no reward except Paradise”.
Fifthly: Good character. It involves refraining from harming others, showing kindness and generosity, forgiving those who wronged you, giving to those who are in need, and maintaining ties with those who have severed them. Allah says in the Quran, "Repel [evil] with that which is better; then, indeed, the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend. But none is granted it except those who are patient, and none is granted it except one having a great portion [of good]."
Having good character and treating others with kindness and respect is an essential aspect of being a righteous Muslim and contributes to a peaceful society.
O worshipers of Allah: The greatest acts of drawing closer to Allah during these ten days are fulfilling the obligations, abstaining from the prohibitions, and fulfilling the trusts (amanah). Then, increase in performing the voluntary acts and recommended deeds to the best of your ability. The early generations used to hold in high regard three sets of ten days: the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, the last ten days of Ramadan, and the first ten days of Muharram
.
Indeed, the blessings during these few days are abundant and invaluable. There is no compensation or equivalent for them. And “if you can, strive to be the first to do good deeds and excel in righteousness before anyone else,, then do so”. Sa'id ibn Jubayr used to exert extraordinary efforts when the ten days approached, to the extent that it seemed almost beyond his capacity.
Seize the opportunity during these ten days, for they are of tremendous reward and great significance. Hasten to make the most of these moments before the arrival of calamities. "And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the righteous" (Quran 3:133). So be proactive and strive to attain the forgiveness of your Lord and the vast paradise that awaits the righteous.
