First Khutbah:
If a trustworthy person told one of us something about a matter which concerns him, he would believe him and start basing his actions on this piece of information. The more trustworthy this person is, the more we would believe him and not doubt the information that he provides.
O Muslims! If we know this, then what should be our position towards the words of our Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam, the truthful and the trustworthy, whose people never experienced a lie from him even before receiving the Message? How can we doubt the one whom Allaah described in His saying which means, “By the star when it descends, Your companion (i.e. Muhammad) has not strayed, nor has he erred, Nor does he speak from (his own) inclination. It is but a revelation revealed." (An-Najm: 1-4).
If we know that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam said, “By The One in Whose Hand the soul of Muhammad is, no one from the Jews or Christians hears about me, then dies while not believing in what I was sent with, but he will be of the people of Hell" (Muslim). Does anyone doubt these words from the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam? Does anyone with a sound mind understand from these words that if a Jew or Christian died while in the state of Judaism or Christianity then he would be from the dwellers of Paradise, although the message of Islam reached him, yet did not become a Muslim? Indeed, this is impossible.
The words of Allaah are more glorified than the words of our Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam, and no one doubts the words of Allaah. Allaah says which means, “Allaah – there is no deity except Him. He will surely assemble you for (account on) the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt. And who is more truthful than Allaah in statement" (An-Nisaa’: 87) and also “But the ones who believe and do righteous deeds – We will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. (It is) the promise of Allaah, (which is) truth, and who is more truthful that Allaah in statement" (An-Nisaa’: 122).
Moreover, if a Muslim hears the saying of his Lord which means, “And whoever desires other than Islaam as religion – never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers" (Aal ‘Imraan: 85) would he then doubt this fact? And when he hears the saying of his Lord which means, “They have certainly disbelieved who say Allaah is Christ, the son of Mary. Say, 'Then who could prevent Allaah at all if He had intended to destroy Christ the so of Mary, or his mother or everyone on the earth?' And to Allaah belongs the dominion of he heavens and the earth and whatever is between them. He creates what He wills, and Allaah is over all things competent" (Al-Maa’idah: 17) and also, “They have certainly disbelieved who say, 'Allaah is the third of three.' And there is no god except one God. And if they do not desist from what they are saying, there will surely afflict the disbelievers among them a painful punishment" (Al-Maa’idah: 73) would he then doubt that the Jews and Christians are infidels? By our Lord, no one would doubt that; it is a mater that is well established in the minds of common Muslims, let alone their scholars. From the day the sun of Islam shone, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam openly and clearly announced that there will be no favoritism in the matter of belief. Aboo Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrated that when Allaah revealed the verse which means, “And warn, (O Muhammad), your closest kindred" (Ash-Shu’araa’: 214), the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam said, “O people of Bnoo Ka’b Ibn Lu’ay! Rescue yourselves from Hellfire; O people of Bnoo Murrah Ibn Ka’b! Rescue yourselves from Hellfire; O people of Bnoo ‘Abdu Shams! Rescue yourselves from Hellfire; O people of Bnoo ‘Abdu Manaaf! Rescue yourselves from Hellfire; O people of Bnoo Haashim! Rescue yourselves from Hellfire; O people of Bnoo ‘Abdul Muttalib! Rescue yourselves from Hellfire; O Faatimah! Rescue yourself from Hellfire. I will hold no power of benefit or harm for any of you" (Muslim).
Allaah does not forgive when someone associates another with Him. Anas, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrated that a man asked the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam, ‘Where will my father be on the Day of Judgment?’, He sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam said, “In Hell fire", then when he left, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam called him back and said, “Both my father and your father will be in Hell fire" (Muslim).
Aboo Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam said, “When Ibraaheem sees his father on the Day of Judgment he would address his lord saying, 'O my lord! You promised me not to disgrace me on the day they will be resurrected.' Allaah will reply, 'I have made Paradise forbidden for the infidels'" (Bukhaari).
Aboo Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam said, “I asked my Lord permission to supplicate for my mother’s forgiveness, but I was not permitted, and I asked my Lord permission to visit her grave, so He allowed me" (Muslim). This was because she died in the state of disbelief, and there is no favoritism in Islaam (whether it is a prophet's parent or that of any other person).
All the texts from the Qur’aan and the Sunnah confirm that no one who heard about the message of Islaam and died while being an infidel will have any share in Paradise, whether he dies as a Jew, a Christian or an idolater. This is because the only accepted religion for Allaah is Islaam and nothing else. Allaah forbade the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam and the believers to supplicate for the forgiveness of the infidels, even if they happen to be their relatives, in the verse which means, “It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they were relatives, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of Hellfire." (At-Tawbah: 113).
No one is called a Muslim except one who testifies that only Allaah is worthy of being worshipped without setting partners with Him, and that Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam is His Messenger. Islaam, which Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam came with, overruled all previous religions; whoever believes in it is a believer who believes in Allaah and His Messengers, and whoever rejects it disbelieves in Allaah and His Messengers. Allaah says which means, “Indeed, those who disbelieve in Allaah and His messengers and wish to discriminate between Allaah and His messengers and say, 'We believe in some and disbelieve in others,' and wish to adopt a way in between – Those are the disbelievers, truly. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment." (An-Nisaa’: 150-151).
Now that we are aware of this fact, we must be grateful to Allaah for the favor of Islaam, and must ask Him to make us steadfast on Islaam until we die. We must also be firm in rejecting any words which contradict these confirmed fundamentals and definite postulate.
Among the claims that some people spread, which contradict what is commonly believed in Islaam, as well as common sense, is the saying, ‘Islaam, Judaism and Christianity all lead people to Allaah’.
Slaves of Allaah and followers of Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam! Few years ago, an evil plea calling for interfaith started spreading, and sadly it received support from some people who are considered to be Muslims. They raised attractive banners, and proclaimed deceiving slogans, such as, "Brotherhood in faith", "Islam-Christianity friendship" and "Uniting the three religions". They started talking about a universal religion, and became very active and started to expand and spread their views. Their followers started inviting people to dissolve all differences between religions claiming that there is no such thing as believers and disbelievers, and that all people as humans are brothers. They started propagating the idea to print the Qur’aan, the Old Testament and the New Testament as one book, and to build a place of worship which has a mosque, a church and a temple, all in one.
This has started to sneak into the Muslim land, and some people’s minds were taken by it. Others designated their pens to write about it. Many conferences and private as well as official associations made it the main agenda to be addressed. Some so called Muslims or those who affiliate themselves with Islaam started proclaiming different false statements such as:
• ‘Those fanatics who insist to comprehensively distinguish Islaam and Muslims from others are going against Qur’aan, which described all the Prophets of Allaah to be Muslims’.
• ‘All people come from one origin and receive the divine messages from the same source, which serves as evidence against those who distinguish Islaam and Muslims from others’.
• ‘The differences between Muslims and the people of the book are not so major in order for us to take them out of the fold of belief, or to claim that what they believe in is not divine ‘.
• ‘How is it possible that Edison will be deprived from Paradise when he was the one who invented light by which the entire world was lit, even the mosques?’
If anything would have been of benefit, it would have been being a Prophet’s parent, but even they will be in Hell since they died as disbelievers. Saying otherwise reflects both ignorance and the following of desires on their part.
Slaves of Allaah! This is dangerous propaganda which invites people to interfaith can instill doubts in the hearts of Muslims, and cause the destruction of some of their fundamentals of belief. It has evil effects on people, like:
• Destroying the belief of ‘loyalty and disavowal’ which Muslims should have towards Muslims and disbelievers correspondingly, and removing anything related to religion from the hearts of people.
• Announcing the disbelieving faith as correct and accepting it.
• Allowing people to become Jews or Christians without feeling that it is a problem.
• Terminating all differences between Muslims and disbelievers, while it is the core of the struggle between truth and falsehood.
• Making the following of Islaam equal to abiding by any of the other fabricated religions, and claiming that there is nothing which distinguishes Islaam from other faiths.
Slave of Allaah! Interfaith is an invitation to disbelief which does not co-exist with belief. Al-Qaadhi ‘Iyaadh, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said, ‘We rule out as a disbeliever anyone who believes in any faith other than Islaam, supports disbelievers, doubts their disbelief or considers their faith as correct, even if this person appears as a Muslim. If he believes that Islaam is a true religion as well as other religions, then he is also a disbeliever regardless of what he claims of being a Muslim’.
Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said, ‘It is known by necessity and with the consensus of the Muslim scholars that anyone who allows the following of a faith other than Islaam and what Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam came with is a disbeliever, just like those who believed in a portion of The Book and disbelieved in other portions’. Imaam Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdul-Wahhaab, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said words similar to these as well.
Second Khutbah:
The obligation of Muslims is to beware of the traps of their enemies, and they must know that there will never be an agreed meeting point between Muslims and the Jews and Christians, until they apply the words of Allaah which mean, “Say, 'Oh People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you – that we will not worship except Allaah and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allaah. But if they turn away, then say, 'Bear witness that we are Muslims (submitting to Him).'" (Aal ‘Imraan: 64), and also, “Say, (O Muhammad), 'Oh mankind, indeed I am the Messenger of Allaah to you all, (from Him) to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death.' So believe in Allaah and His Messenger, the unlettered prophet, who believes in Allaah and His words, and follow him that you may be guided." (Al-A’raaf: 158).
