The conclusion of Surah Al-Baqarah

All praise is due to Allah. We praise Him, seek His assistance, ask for His forgiveness, and turn to Him in repentance. Whomever Allah guides, there is none who can lead him astray, and whomever He allows to go astray, there is none who can guide him. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, alone, without any partners, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.

As for what follows: I advise you and myself to have God-consciousness (taqwa) as it is the counsel of the Most Merciful to the people of faith and a shield for them against Satan. Allah, the Most High, says: 'Indeed, those who have taqwa, when an impulse from Satan touches them, they remember [Him], and at once they have insight.'"

O worshipers of Allah, Allah has opened the gates of Paradise through acts of obedience and worship, making them easy for the believers according to their capacity, as Allah, the Most High, says: 'Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear.'"

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "They are the believers, and Allah has made the matters of their religion easy for them." As-Sa'di commented, "The foundation of commands and prohibitions is not from the matters that burden the souls. Instead, they are nourishment for the souls and medicine for the bodies. Moreover, when there are valid excuses, there is room for leniency."

"It has what it has earned, and upon it is what it has brought [of evil]”: It means that every soul will be accountable for the good it has done, and it will bear the consequences of the evil it has committed. So, "No bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another”.

And out of Allah's mercy to His servants is that He directed them on how to supplicate to Him, so He guided them on how to ask Him, and He commanded them to say:“Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred.'"

Ibn Kathir said, "Meaning, do not punish us if we neglect an obligatory act or commit a prohibited one due to forgetfulness or if we make a mistake in our actions out of ignorance."

“Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us": It means, Our Lord, do not burden us with what we cannot bear, and do not impose on us difficult deeds that we are unable to perform. Spare us from the fate of those who were burdened beyond their capacity and faced punishment as a result.

"Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear." And indeed, Allah has done that. He lightened the burden for this nation and sent His Prophet ﷺ with the gentle and tolerant shariah to be a mercy to the worlds. "And He releases them from the heavy burdens and shackles [that were] upon them."

The greatest shackles that the Prophetﷺ removed is the liberation of souls from being attached to the worship of other creatures to being attached to the Lord of all creatures , the liberation of minds from the superstitions of polytheism and illusions to the reality of monotheism and Islam, and the salvation of people from the shackles of Hell to the abode of eternal bliss.

"And pardon us, and forgive us, and have mercy upon us," meaning overlook our shortcomings in fulfilling obligations, our audacity in committing forbidden acts, and conceal our sins and forgive them. Wrap us in Your mercy, for no one can escape punishment or achieve reward except through the mercy of Allah.

The Prophet ﷺ said, "No one will be saved by their deeds." They asked, "Not even you, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Not even me, unless Allah covers me with His mercy."

Ibn Uthaymeen said, "Pardon is sought for excessive neglect of obligations, seeking forgiveness is for committing forbidden acts, and mercyencompasses what lies ahead in a person's future - that Allah guides them towards what is in their best interest”. That's why they say, 'The sinner is in need of three things: that Allah pardons them for what lies between them and Him, that He conceals their sins from His servants so they are not exposed, and that He safeguards them in the future, so they do not fall into another sin.'"

Then, the Surah Al-Baqarah concludes with another significant supplication, which is the request for victory over the enemies of Allah. Allah says, 'You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.'

This means that You are our guardian and master, and we are Your servants. You alone have authority over us. Therefore, help us with victory and empowerment over the enemies of the faith, for they have disbelieved in the Most Merciful, obeyed Satan, and persisted in disobedience."

Ibn Ashur said: "It means we call upon You because You are our Master, and part of the responsibility of a master is to treat the servants kindly. Also, part of a master's role is to support and aid their affairs. This supplication encompasses the goodness of both this world and the Hereafter. When they are granted victory over their enemies, they are saved from trials, their lives become peaceful, their faith becomes apparent, and people embrace their religion in crowds."

O worshipers of Allah, victory over disbelievers can be achieved not only through swords and weapons but also through compelling arguments, articulate speech, knowledge, and clear exposition.

Ibn Hazm stated that there is nothing more infuriating to disbelievers and false claimants than having their arguments dismantled with compelling evidence. Mighty armies can be defeated, but a valid argument can never be overcome. It is the most effective weapon for the truth and religion, even more powerful than numerous armies."

Among the benefits of this verse is that victory over external enemies on the battlefield comes after achieving victory over one's own self, which inclined towards disobedience, desires, and Satan. It comes after seeking forgiveness and turning to the One, the Overwhelming. 'O you who have believed, if you support Allah, He will support you and plant firmly your feet.'

The conclusions of Surah Al-Baqarah are a light from the Most Merciful and a shield against Satan!"Gabriel said to the Prophet ﷺ, "Rejoice in two lights that you have been given which no other prophet before you was given: the Opening of the Book (Al-Fatihah) and the concluding verses of Surah Al-Baqarah. You will not recite a letter of them without being granted its benefit”. i.e. you will be given what they contain of goodness and supplication."

In another hadith, it is mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ said, " If they are recited for three nights in a home, no Shaitan shall come near it.."

And Ali said, "I do not see anyone who understands Islam sleeping without reciting the concluding verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, for it is a treasure that your Prophet has been given from beneath the Throne."
