جُحْرُ الضَّب
الْخُطْبَةُ الأُوْلَى
إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ لِلَّهِ، نَحْمَدُهُ وَنَسْتَعِينُهُ، وَنَسْتَغْفِرُهُ ونَتُوبُ إِلَيه، مَنْ يَهْدِ اللهُ فَلَا مُضِلَّ لَهُ، وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلَا هَادِيَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُوَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ.
أَمَّا بَعْد: فَمَنْ اتَّقَى اللهَ وَقَاهُ، وَمَنْ تَوَكَّلَ عَلَيْهِ كَفَاه!فـ﴿اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ وَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ﴾.
Dear Muslims, whoever fears Allah, Allah protects him, and whoever relies on Allah, Allah is sufficient for him as He says:
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
عِبَادَ الله: إِنَّهُ جُحْرُ ضَبٍّ خَرِب، لَيْسَ فِيْهِ إِلَّا الضِّيْقُوالتَّعَب! إِنَّهُ جُحْرُ التَّبَعِيَّةِ لِلْكُفَّار، والدُّخُوْل مَعَهُمْ في كُلِّ دَارٍ وقَرَار! قال ﷺ: (لَتَتْبَعُنَّ سَنَنَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ، شِبْرًا شِبْرًا، وَذِرَاعًا بِذِرَاعٍ، حَتَّى لَوْ دَخَلُوا جُحْرَ ضَبٍّ؛تَبِعْتُمُوهُمْ).
Dear Muslims, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) informed us that this nation will blindly follow the previous nations in their habits, policies, and religious practices, and that it will try to imitate them in everything. The Prophet ﷺ affirmed such resemblance and imitation by stating that if the previous nations entered the narrow and dark hole of a sand lizard, this nation would attempt to enter it.The prophet ﷺ said: "You will follow the ways of those nations who were before you, inch by inch and step by step so much so that if they had entered into the hole of the lizard, you would follow them in this also." We said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ! (Do you mean) the Jews and the Christians?" He said, "Whom else?"
وَمِنْ مَظَاهِرِ التَّبَعِيَّةِ، لِشَرِّ البَرِيِّة: مُشَابَهَتُهُمْ في أَعْيَادِهِمُالمَوْسِمِيَّة! فقَدْ كَانَ لِأَهْلِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يَوْمَانِ فِي السَنَةِ يَلْعَبُونَ فِيهِمَا؛ فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ قَالَ: (قَدْ أَبْدَلَكُمُ اللَّهُ بِهِمَا خَيْرًا مِنْهُمَا: يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ، وَيَوْمَ الْأَضْحَى).
And of the imitating behaviours of the previous nations, is imitating them in their seasonal celebrations. During the times of ignorance people of the Jahiliyyah had two days each year when they would play. When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came to Al-Madinah he said: Allah has substituted for you something better than them: the day of Al-Fitr and the day of Al-Adha (i.e. the day of sacrifice and the day of breaking the fast).
فَالعِيْدُ قَضِيَّةٌ عَقَدِيَّةٌ. وَتَخْصِيصُ أَزْمِنَةٍ بِأَعْيَادٍ حَوْلِيَّةٍ؛ لَيْسَ إِلَّا لِرِبِّ البَرِيّة! ﴿وَرَبُّكَ يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَاءُ وَيَخْتَارُ﴾.
And days of Eid are a matter of creed, and specifying times for annual festivals is for none other than the lord of creation. Allay says: And your Lord creates what He wills and chooses.
وَالأَعْيَادُ: هِيَ مِنْ أَخَصِّ مَا تَتَمَيَّزُ بِهِ الشَّرَائِعُ، وَالْمُسْلِمُونَتَمَيَّزُوا بِدِينِهِمْ وَعِيْدِهِمْ، قال تعالى: ﴿لَكُمْ دِينُكُمْ وَلِيَ دِينِ﴾. قال ﷺ: (إِنَّ لِكُلِّ قَوْمٍ عِيدًا، وَهَذَا عِيدُنَا).
And days of celebration are from the most specific things which are unique to creeds, and muslims are unique with their religion and celebration, Allah says:"For you is your religion, and for me is my religion." The prophet ﷺ said: There is an eid for every nation and this is our eid.
والأَعْيَادُ فِي الإِسْلام: شَعِيْرَةٌ وَعِبَادَةٌ، لا تَقْبَلُ التَّحْرِيْفَ وَالزِّيَادَة، وَهِيَ أَعْيَادُ شُكْرٍ وَذِكْر، لا غَفْلَةٍ وَشِرْك! ﴿وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ جَعَلْنا مَنْسَكاً لِيَذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ﴾.
And celebrations in Islam are a ritual and worship, and cannot be subjected to modification or alteration. And they are eid times for praising and thanking Allah and remembering him, not times of negligence and disbelief. Allah says: And for all nations We have appointed religious ceremonies that they may mention the name of Allah.
وَأَعْيَادُ المُشْرِكِيْن: زُوْرٌ وَبُهْتَان، وَفُسُوْقٌ وَعِصْيَان، لا تَلِيْقُ بِـ(عِبَادِ الرَّحْمَن!) قالَ I في صِفَاتِهِمْ: ﴿والَّذِينَ لا يَشْهَدُوْنَ الزُّوْر﴾. قال مُجَاهِد: (يَعْنِي أَعْيَادَ المُشْرِكِيْن!).
And the eid of disbelievers is falsehood and transgression and disobedience not befitting of the servants of the most merciful
(عِبَادِ الرَّحْمَن!), where Allah said about their characteristics:
﴿والَّذِينَ لا يَشْهَدُوْنَ الزُّوْر﴾And [they are] those who do not testify to falsehood. Mujahid said: falsehood is the celebrations of disbelievers.
وَمِنْ أَعْيَادِ الكُفَّارِ: عِيْدُ الكِرِسْمِسِ، وَرَأْسِ السَّنَةِالمِيْلَادِيَّةِ! الَّذِي يَحْتَفِلُ فِيْهِ النَّصَارَى بِمِيْلَادِالمَسِيْحِu، الَّذِي يَزْعُمُوْنَ أَنَّهُ الرَّبُّ، أو ابْنُ الرَّب! ﴿ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى عَمَّا يَقُولُونَ عُلُوًّا كَبِيرًا﴾.
And of the celebrations of disbelievers is their Christmas and new year’s celebrations. Where Christians celebrate the birth of Isa, who they claim is a God, or the son of God!
﴿ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى عَمَّا يَقُولُونَ عُلُوًّا كَبِيرًا﴾.
Exalted is He and high above what they say by great sublimity.
وأَجْمَعَ الصَّحَابَةُ الأَخْيَار، عَلَى إِنْكَارِ أَعْيَادِ الْكُفَّارِ: قال عُمَرُt: (اِجْتَنِبُوا أَعْدَاءَ اللهِ فِي عِيدِهِمْ، فَإِنَّ السُّخْطَةَ تَنْزِلُ عَلَيْهِمْ!) . وقال ابْنُ عُمَر t: (مَنْ صَنَعَ مَهْرَجَانَهُمْ، وَتَشَبَّهَ بِهِمْ حَتَّى يَمُوتَ؛ حُشِرَ مَعَهُمْ!).
And the companions have agreed in consensus on refuting the celebrations of disbelievers. Umar said: avoid the enemies of Allah in their celebrations, for the anger of Allah descends upon them. And Ibn Umar said: whoever does what they do and imitates them until death will be resurrected with them!
وَمَنْ شَارَكَهُمْ فِي أَعْيَادِهِمْ، وَلَوْ بِالتَّهْنِئَةِ؛ فَقَدْ أَلْقَى بِدِيْنِهِ إِلَىالتَّهْلُكَة! يَقُوْلُ ابْنُ القَيِّم: (أَمَّا التَّهْنِئَةُ بِشَعَائِرِالكُفْرِ؛ فَحَرَامٌ بِالاِتِّفَاق! مِثْلُ: أَنْ يُهَنِّئَهُمْبِأَعْيَادِهِمْ. وَكَثِيْرٌ مِمَّنْ لا قَدْرَ لِلْدِّيْنِ عِنْدَه؛ يَقَعُفِي ذَلِكَ وَهُوَ لا يَدْرِي قُبْحَ مَا فَعَل! فَمَنْ هَنَّأَ عَبْدًا بِمَعْصِيَةٍ؛ فَقَدْ تَعَرَّضَ لِمَقْتِ اللهِ وَسَخَطِه!).
And whoever joins them in their celebrations and congratulations has led his religion to destruction. Ibn Al Qayyim says: as for congratulating the disbelievers for their rites, it is unlawful by unanimous agreement. For example to congratulate them or wish them for this celebration, and many for whom the religion is not important, falls in this and doesn't realise the extent of the violation he has committed! Forwhoever congratulates a slave for a sin; He has been subjected to Allah's anger and wrath.
وقال ابنُ عُثَيْمِيْن: (تَهْنِئَةُ الكُفَّارِ بِعِيْدِ الكِرِسْمِس:إِقْرَارٌ لِمَا هُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ الكُفْرِ. وَإِجَابَةُدَعْوَتِهِمْ بِهَذِهِ المُنَاسَبَةِ: أَعْظَمُ مِنْ تَهْنِئَتِهِمْ. وَيَحْرُمُ إِقَامَةُ الحَفَلَاتِ، أو تَبَادُلِ الهَدَايَا أَو التَّهْنِئَةُ بِالشَّعَائِرِ الدِّيْنِيَّةِ: كَأَعْيَادِهِم الَّتِي تَكُونُ على رَأْسِ السَّنَةِ المِيْلَادِيَّة).
And Ibn Uthaimeen said: wishing disbelievers for christmas, is affirming for what they are on from acts of disbelief
And accepting their invitation in this is worse than wishing them, and it is unlawful to hold celebrations or exchanging gifts or congratulating on religious rituals such as that of the new year.
وَاسْتِعْمَالُ الشِّعَارَاتِ المُصَاحِبَةِ لِذَلِكَ العِيْدِ: كَاتِّخَاذِ شَجَرَةِ المِيْلَاِد، وَغَيْرِهَا مِنَ الطُّقُوْسِ وَالرُّمُوْزِ؛ تَشَبُّهٌ بِالنَّصَارَى في أَخَصِّ أَعْيَادِهِمْ، وَلَوْ لَمْ يَقْصِدْ بِذَلِكَ إِلَّا المَرَح! فَالوَسَائِلُ لَهَا أَحْكَامُ المَقَاصِدِ؛ قال ﷺ: (مَنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِقَوْمٍ فَهُوَ مِنْهُمْ). وَنَهَى ﷺ أَحَدَ أَصْحَابِهِ قَائِلاً: (إِنَّ هَذِهِ مِنْ ثِيَابِ الْكُفَّارِ؛ فَلَا تَلْبَسْهَا).
And following the rituals of the celebration such as having a christmas tree and other actions and symbols, is imitating the christians in the most unique of their celebrations, even if the intention was just to have fun. For means have rulings and intentions.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: He who copies any people is one of them.
And he ﷺ forbade one of his companions saying: These are special garments worn by disbelievers; do not wear them
وَتَحْرِيْمُ التَّشَبُّهِ بِأَعْيَادِ الكُفَّارِ: لا يَلْزَمُ أَنْ يَكُونَ بِقَصْدِالتَّشَبُّهِ وَالإِقْرَار! يقولُ ابْنُ عُثَيْمِين: (إِذَا فَعَلَ فِعْلاً يَخْتَصُّ بِالكُفَّار؛ فَيَكُوْنُ مُتَشَبِّهًا بِهِمْ، سَوَاء قَصَدَ بِذَلِكَ التَّشَبُّهَ أَمْ لَمْ يَقْصِد! وَكَثِيْرٌ مِنَالنَّاسِ يَظُنُّ أَنَّ التَّشَبُّهَ لا يَكُونُ إِلَّا بِالنِّيَّة، وَهَذَا غَلَط؛ لِأَنَّ المَقْصُوْدَ هُوَ الظَّاهِر).
And the prohibition of imitating the disbelievers in their rituals, does not have to be with the intention of imitating or affirming. Ibn Uthaimeen says: if you do an action unique to disbelievers, then you are imitating them, whether you intended this or not! And many people think that it is only by the intention, which is incorrect in this case because what is intended is what is visible.
وَإِذَا كانَ الاِحْتِفَالُ بِمِيْلادِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ، لَمْ يَثْبُتْ عَنْهُ وَلَا عَنْ أَصْحَابِهِ؛ فَكَيْفَ بِمَنْ وَافَقَ النَّصَارَى في عِيْدٍ بِدْعِيٍّ شِرْكِيّ!
And if celebrating the birth of Muhammad ﷺ has not been performed nor proven from him or his companions, then what about one who copies the disbelievers in an innovated polytheistic celebration!
قالَ شَيْخُ الإِسْلَام: (أَصْلُ ظُهُوْرِ الكُفْرِ: هُوَ التَّشَبُّهُبِالكَافِرِيْنَ، وَلِهَذَا عَظُمَ وَقْعُ البِدَعِ، وَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْفِيْهَا تَشَبُّهٌ بِالكُفَّارِ؛ فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جَمَعَتْالوَصْفَيْن!فَلَا يَحِلُّ لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ أَنْ يَتَشَبَّهُوا بشَيْءٍ مِمَّا يَخْتَصُّ بِأَعْيَادِهِمْ).
Sheikh Al Islam said: the origin of the appearance of the disbelief: is imitating disbelievers, and that is why innovations have appeared, even if they do not imitate disbelievers, now what about if both are combined! And so it is unlawful for a believer to imitate a disbeliever and a celebration unique to them.
وَلَوْ أَنَّ رَجُلاً شَتَمَ أَبَاكَ، ثُمَّ احْتَفَلَ بِهَذَا الشَّتْمِ؛ فَهَلْ سَتُشَارِكُهُ الاِحْتِفَال؟! فَكَيْفَ بِمَنْ شَتَمَ رَبَّكَ، وَنَسَبَ لَهُ الوَلَد، ثُمَّ تَحْتَفِل مَعَهُ بِمِيْلَادِ ذَلِكَ الوَلَد! قالَ U: (كَذَّبَنِي ابْنُ آدَمَ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ ذَلِكَ!وَشَتَمَنِي وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ ذَلِكَ! فَأَمَّا تَكْذِيبُهُ إِيَّايَ؛ فَقَوْلُهُ: "لَنْ يُعِيدَنِي كَمَا بَدَأَنِي!"، وَلَيْسَ أَوَّلُ الخَلْقِ بِأَهْوَنَ عَلَيَّ مِنْ إِعَادَتِهِ. وَأَمَّا شَتْمُهُ إِيَّايَ؛ فَقَوْلُهُ: "اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ وَلَدًا!" وَأَنَا الأَحَدُ الصَّمَدُ، لَمْ أَلِدْ وَلَمْ أُولَدْ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لِي كُفْئًا أَحَدٌ).
And if a man insults your father, then celebrates this insult, will you join him in this celebration?! And what about one who insults your Creator and claims that he has a son, then you celebrate with them this insult to your Lord!
Allah says: The son of Adam tells a lie against Me, though he hasn't the right to do so. He abuses me though he hasn't the right to do so. As for his telling a lie against Me, it is his saying that I will not resurrect him as I created him for the first time. In fact, the first creation was not easier for Me than new creation. As for his abusing Me, it is his saying that Allah has begotten children, while I am the One, the Self-Sufficient Master Whom all creatures need, I beget not, nor was I begotten, and there is none like unto Me."
وَإِذَا كانَ الذَّبْحُ للهِ U -وَهُوَ أَعْظَمُ العِبَادَاتِ المَالِيَّة-؛ لا يُقْبَلُ في مَحَلِّ عِيْدِ المُشْرِكِيْن؛ فَكَيْفَ بِمَنْ احْتَفَلَ مَعَهُمْ بِذَلِكَ العِيْد!؟
And if slaughtering for Allah, one of the greatest acts of worship, is not accepted in places where disbelievers celebrate, now what about one who joins this celebration?!
جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إلى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: "إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ أَنْ أَنْحَرَ إِبِلًا بِـ(بُوَانَةَ)". فَقَالَ ﷺ: (هَلْ كَانَ فِيْهَا وَثَنٌ مِنْ أَوْثَانِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ؟) قال: (لَا) قال: (هَلْ كَانَ فِيهَا عِيدٌ مِنْ أَعْيَادِهِمْ؟)قال: (لَا).
A man came to the prophet ﷺ and he said: I have made a vow to Allah to slaughter a camel atBuwanah a place in Makkah, the Messenger (ﷺ) said: Does it contain any idol? He said: No.
The Messenger (ﷺ) said: was it a place of pagan celebration? He said: No. Then he said: Fulfil your vow that you have taken for Allah.
أَقُوْلُ قَوْلِي هَذَا، وَاسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ لِيْ وَلَكُمْ مِنْ كُلِّ ذَنْبٍ؛ فَاسْتَغْفِرُوْهُ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الغَفُورُ الرَّحِيم
الخُطْبَةُ الثَّانِيَة
الْحَمْدُ للهِ عَلَى إِحْسَانِه، والشُّكْرُ لَهُ عَلَى تَوْفِيْقِهِ وَامْتِنَانِه، وَأَشْهَدُ أَلَّا إِلَهَ إِلَّا الله، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُوْلُه، وَآلِهِ وَأَصْحَابِه وأَتْبَاعِه.
عِِبَادَ الله: كَانَ نبِيُّكُمْ ﷺ يَتَحَرَّىَ مُخَالَفَةَ المُشْرِكِيْنَ في خَصَائِصِهِمْ؛ حَتَّى قالَ الْيَهُودُ: (مَا يُرِيدُ هَذَا الرَّجُلُ أَنْ يَدَعَ مِنْ أَمْرِنَا شَيْئًا؛ إِلَّا خَالَفَنَا فِيهِ!).
Dear muslims, your messenger ﷺ used to differ from the disbelievers in their unique matters until the jews said: this man does not want to leave a matter of ours until he differs from us in it!
فَاعْتَزُّوا بِدِيْنِكُمْ، وَاقْتَدُوْا بِحَبِيْبِكُمْ! فَهَؤُلَاءِ الكُفَّار، مَهْمَا بَلَغُوْا مِنَ الإِعْلَامِ وَالإِبْهَار، وَالغُرُوْرِ والاِسْتِكْبَار؛ فَـ(هُمْ تَبَعٌ لَنَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ! نَحْنُ الآخِرُونَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الدُّنْيَا، وَالأَوَّلُونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ!).
So be honoured by your religion, and follow the example of the most beloved ﷺ! For those disbelievers, no matter their rites, baffling, arrogance and pride, they are behind us on the day of judgement. It is reported in the Hadith: They are behind us on the day of judgement! For we might have less of this world but we are first on the day of judgement!
﴿وَلِلَّهِ الْعِزَّةُ وَلِرَسُولِهِ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلَكِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ﴾.
And to Allah belongs [all] honor, and to His Messenger, and to the believers, but the hypocrites do not know.
هَذَا ، وَصَلُّوا وَسَلِّمُوا عَلَى نَبِيِّكُم كَمَا أَمَرَكُمْ بِذلِكَ رَبُّكُمْ،فَقَالَ: ﴿إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَمَلَاَئِكَـتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَءامَنُواْ صَلُّواْ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُواْ تَسْلِيمًا﴾
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى آلِإِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍكَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ.
* اللَّهُمَّ أَعِزَّ الإسلامَ والمسلمين، وأَذِلَّ الشِّرْكَ والمُشْرِكِيْن.
* اللَّهُمَّ فَرِّجْ هَمَّ المَهْمُوْمِيْنَ، وَنَفِّسْ كَرْبَ المَكْرُوْبِين.
* اللَّهُمَّ إنَّا نَعوذُ بك مِنَ زَوالِ نِعمَتِكَ وَتَحوُّلِ عَافِيَتِكَ، وَفُجَاءَةِ نِقمَتِكَ
* عِبَادَ الله: ﴿إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ وَالإحْسَانِ وَإِيتَاءِ ذِي الْقُرْبَى وَيَنْهَى عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنْكَرِ وَالْبَغْيِ يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ﴾.
* فَاذْكُرُوا اللهَ يَذْكُرْكُمْ، واشْكُرُوْهُ على نِعَمِهِ يَزِدْكُمْ ﴿وَلَذِكْرُ اللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَصْنَعُونَ﴾.
